Bush Middle School Students Lead the Stampede into a New Year of Reading

The school year is off to a thrilling start at Bush Middle School as students make their first rotations through the newly renovated library. Following last year’s major update, the space has transformed into a vibrant hub of campus life. The momentum built rapidly over the past year with total overall checkouts surging by nearly 80% to nearly 11,000 titles...and that passion for reading is continuing to soar.

Every two to three weeks, students visit the library alongside their English Language Arts classes to select their next great read. Beyond browsing the shelves, the library offers a dynamic, hands-on environment equipped with Legos, puzzles, coloring stations, Conversation Jenga, and engaging reading challenges throughout the year. Designed as a sanctuary to read, discover, create, and connect, the renovated space has quickly earned enthusiastic praise across campus.

"My favorite part of the library is checking out the horror and scary books section, relaxing on the comfy couches, and getting to spend time with Ms. Beesley!" shared one student. Another student expressed how they love how cozy the space is. Staff members are equally thrilled with the space's welcoming environment. "My favorite part are the crafts and hands-on activities like puzzles. It's a great spot to come in and decompress for a few minutes," noted one staff member. "It provides a communal space to connect with both staff and students outside of your typical environment." Another staff member agreed, adding, "I love how inviting and fun it is not just for the students, but for the adults, too."

As the semester unfolds, the library remains central to the school's mission. Bush Middle School is ready to Lead the Stampede in a shared love for stories, empathy, and curiosity!
